Banana Bread Protein Shake

Banana Bread Protein Shake - recipe card

This creamy, indulgent protein shake tastes like a slice of warm banana bread in a glass, but packs over 30 grams of protein per serving. Ripe banana, Greek yogurt, and whey protein create a thick, satisfying texture with warm spices and a hint of vanilla. Perfect for breakfast, post-workout, or a quick meal on the go.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large ripe bananas (about 1 cup mashed)
  • 1 cup full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 2 scoops (about 2/3 cup) vanilla whey protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons almond butter
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the bananas, Greek yogurt, milk, rolled oats, whey protein powder, almond butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and kosher salt.
  2. Secure the lid and blend on high speed for 30 seconds, or until the oats are completely pulverized and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add the ice cubes and blend again on high for another 30-45 seconds, until the shake is thick, frosty, and creamy. If your blender struggles, stop and stir with a spatula, then continue.
  4. Taste and adjust sweetness: add another 1/2 tablespoon maple syrup if your bananas were less ripe, or a pinch more cinnamon for a stronger banana bread flavor.
  5. For an even thicker shake, add 1/4 cup more ice and blend briefly. For a thinner consistency, add 2 tablespoons milk at a time until desired.
  6. Divide evenly among 4 glasses (about 1 cup each) and serve immediately. Garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or a banana slice if desired.
  7. If you prefer a warmer flavor profile, you can substitute the ice with 1/2 cup cold brewed coffee or cold chai tea for a mocha or chai banana bread variation.
  8. Note: This shake is best enjoyed fresh, but you can refrigerate it for up to 24 hours in a sealed jar. Shake well before drinking.

Notes

Storage: Store any leftover shake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Shake vigorously or blend again with a few ice cubes before serving. Freezing: Pour into ice cube trays or a freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 1 month. To reblend, thaw slightly and blend with a splash of milk. Reheating: Not recommended; this is a cold beverage. For a warm version, gently heat the milk and blend without ice, then serve warm.
