Coffee Protein Shake with 32g Protein

Coffee Protein Shake with 32g Protein - recipe card

This creamy coffee protein shake delivers a bold espresso flavor with 32 grams of protein per serving, thanks to a blend of whey protein and high-protein milk. It’s thick, smooth, and perfectly chilled—a grab-and-go breakfast that keeps you full all morning.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk (or high-protein milk such as Fairlife)
  • 2 cups cold brew coffee, chilled
  • 2 large bananas, peeled, sliced, and frozen
  • 1 cup full-fat Greek yogurt
  • 2 scoops vanilla whey protein powder (about 60g)
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp fine sea salt
  • 1 cup ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Add the almond milk and cold brew coffee to the blender first. This liquid base prevents the powder from sticking to the bottom and ensures a smooth blend.
  2. Add the frozen banana slices, Greek yogurt, whey protein powder, cocoa powder, honey, vanilla extract, and sea salt to the blender. The frozen banana adds natural sweetness and a thick, creamy texture.
  3. Secure the lid and blend on high speed for 45-60 seconds, until the mixture is completely smooth and no chunks of banana remain. If your blender struggles, pause and scrape down the sides with a spatula.
  4. With the blender running on low, remove the lid cap and slowly add the ice cubes one at a time. This gradual addition prevents the blades from jamming and creates a frosty, milkshake-like consistency.
  5. Continue blending on high for another 30 seconds, until the shake is thick, frothy, and uniform in color. Taste and adjust sweetness with additional honey if desired.
  6. Pour the shake into four chilled glasses. Serve immediately with a straw or spoon, as the shake will separate if left standing.
  7. For a mocha twist, drizzle a teaspoon of melted dark chocolate inside each glass before pouring. For extra protein, swap the almond milk for high-protein milk (adds 2g protein per serving).

Notes

Storage: Shake is best consumed immediately. To store, pour into an airtight jar and refrigerate for up to 24 hours; shake well before drinking. Freeze: Pour into ice cube trays and freeze, then re-blend with a splash of milk for a slushy texture. Reheating: Not recommended. For meal prep, combine all dry ingredients (protein powder, cocoa, salt) in small bags and freeze bananas in portions; blend with liquids when ready.
